Mental Health: Stigma

People with mental illnesses may face stigmas, and they may be viewed in a negative way. Furthermore,  an example of a stigma would be if a person with mental illness is called ‘dangerous’, ‘crazy’ or ‘incompetent’

Stigmas often involve many inaccurate stereotypes. People with mental illness may be characterized as being more violent than the rest of society which is not true in most cases.

Treatment

Often, people with mental illnesses are treated differently and excluded from many things the rest of society takes for granted.

So the next time a stigma arises dealing with mental illness, remember that mental illness is common and it is not a sign of weakness. It is not our place to judge other individuals.
